چکیده

Intelligent tutoring systems have been developed to help students learn independently. However, students who are poor selfregulated learners often struggle to use these systems because they lack the skills necessary to learn independently. The field of psychology has extensively studied self-regulated learning and can provide strategies to improve learning, however few of these include the use of technology. The present proposal reviews three elements of self-regulated learning (motivational beliefs, helpseeking behavior, and meta-cognitive self-monitoring) that are essential to intelligent tutoring systems. Future research is suggested, which address each element in order to develop selfregulated learning strategies in students while they are engaged in learning mathematics within an intelligent tutoring system.

Fine-grained assessment of motivation 1 Fine-Grained Assessment of Motivation over Long Periods of Learning with an Intelligent Tutoring System: Methodology, Advantages, and Preliminary Results

Models of self-regulated learning (SRL) describe the complex and dynamic interplay of learners’ cognitions, motivations, and behaviors when engaged in a learning activity. Recently, researchers have begun to use fine-grained behavioral data such as think aloud protocols and logfile data from educational software to test hypotheses regarding the cognitive and metacognitive processes underlying S...

The Effect of Web-Integrated Instruction and Feedback on Self-Regulated Learning Ability of Iranian EFL Learners

Abstract The present study intended, firstly, to investigate the effect of web-integrated instruction on self-regulated learning ability in EFL writing, and secondly, to compare and contrast the effects of paper-based feedback and web-assisted feedback on the self-regulated learning ability. To this end, a quasi-experimental design was applied for both cases. In line with the first objective, ...

Clustering and Profiling Students According to their Interactions with an Intelligent Tutoring System Fostering Self-Regulated Learning

In this paper, we present the results obtained using a clustering algorithm (Expectation-Maximization) on data collected from 106 college students learning about the circulatory system with MetaTutor, an agent-based Intelligent Tutoring System (ITS) designed to foster self-regulated learning (SRL). The three extracted clusters were validated and analyzed using multivariate statistics (MANOVAs) ...

Active Learners: Redesigning an Intelligent Tutoring System to Support Self-regulated Learning

Supporting students’ self-regulated learning (SRL) is an important topic in the learning sciences. Two critical processes involved in SRL are selfassessment and study choice. Intelligent tutoring systems (ITSs) have been shown to be effective in supporting students’ domain-level learning through guided problem-solving practice, but it is an open question how they can support SRL processes effec...

Adaptive Multi-Agent Architecture to Track Students' Self-Regulated Learning

Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS) can be designed to improve learning and performance through Pedagogical Agents (PAs) that are designed to foster self-regulated learning through interactions and exchange of information with human learners. PAs are intelligent and follow rational behaviors, but to adaptively track students’ progress, they need to be systematically and specifically designed. Ho...
